why love nyc
I live here. it sucks.. its expensive, everyone here tries to act all upscale with the yuppie trend. People try to "go green" but at the same moment Times Square is using more electricity then one can imagine and the yellow cabs sit in idle with traffic. A cup of starbucks cost more than a gallon of regular gasoline. If your in Manhattan and try to find a parking space expect to pay $500+ dollars for a spot per month, 25 cents for 10 mins if you happen to find a meter, and if you park in a side street because there are 4 signes to each pole and each one superceeds another. If you happen to be on that block where the 4 signes happen to allow you.. chances are a box truck will take your mirror off.
If its up to me id rather be around Florida, Alabama or Mississippi if things where back to normal there. That way i can sit in front of my house.. with enough space to own a German Shepard again and no one will F- with my property as far as graffiti and crime are concerned. I live in a very nice area in NY area. The scum from the hoods come here to steal rims and etc.

I heart NYC is just an ad campaign to make the locals feel special and want to stay.
Kind of like the fat, unpopular chicks become goth so that they don't feel left out and lonely.
NYC is the worst possible existence you can have.

New York can be the worst place in the world, or the best...it all depends on how thick your wallet is.
I find it really fascinating that there are people who say NYC sucks, and yet they continue to live there (not that it's any of my business!). I totally understand that some people are tied to a geographic area for various reasons (career, family committments, etc.), but I also wonder what's stopping people from moving. My own experience with the city is limited, but as other people have said, it strikes me as a wicked place to visit, but definitely not to live.
Great place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there again unless I was totally wealthy. I lived on the Lower East Side and the Upper West Side in my Jr High School days. My mom still lives in Queens and teaches the little animals in a Manhattan public school.
Even then you have to live with the weather. Give me So Cal year-round moderate weather, with a short drive to snow or desert if I want!

And then there is the leaving all your friends and family aspect. I have made moves like that twice since becoming an adult and the family/friends/acquaintances is the tough part of the equation.
Growing up I never lived in the same place/state more than about 3 months at a time and it was tough always having to make new friends and being the outsider.
I just move about an hour and a half away from my old home and I basically have only 1 person left in my acquaintances column. I am having to meet all new people. I don't find that as challenging as someone who's never moved before, but it's still part of that decision making process. I just wish I'd done it sooner.
