Why not have good discussion on politics?

there are forums dedicated to politics 
sure it would be fine if everyone would go in with an open mind and have a civilized debate but that is neigh impossible, unfourtunatly.
plus we sorta have an experiment in politics here except we have a clear dictatorship

While I enjoy political discussions as well, I do see the point of wanting to keep a close eye on the topic. It does seem to ruffel feathers and is a very charged issue. I think the way the threads are managed are pretty fair. It did take some heat before the mods closed the threads and they let us TRY to have civilized discussions, but as has already been said, they turn hot fast.
The only other suggestion I might make is possibly making another area just for political discussions in which someone interested in the area has to closely moderate it. If we had a specific forum just for those discussions and an understanding that the moderator will be much more strict in maintaining the rules, it might work. You would eventually weed out the people that couldn't speak civily and end up with a handful of regulars that would share things there. Just a suggestion. I would volunteer as one of the moderators of such a forum if you guys needed one. I wouldn't want to be the only one, but I'd definently moderate whenever I was on, which is most of the workday ;-)

if RiceburnerTx gets to moderate, there goes the forum!!! hahaha.. just kidding... i think that is a great idea. I believe we can self moderate the political forums.. and if need be, i will moderate also. got to have both sides of the view, since Riceburnertx already volunteer to be on the wrong side, might as well moderate for the right side...

Well I don't see the moderators doing to well right now locking political threads as is. Look down a few threads and someone has posted quotes from pres Bush trying to undermind his intelligence. Good looking out mods
. I do agree that there should be a seperate section of political threads. It would be right under the sports corner etc sections. I don't think it should be moderated because one persons opinion might be different then others and that mod might have a power trip. I think it could be well run and it would give people a place to vent/express their opinions.
