Why is SAMS club selling gas?
I drove by a Sams club yesterday and they have one of those new stations out front. The sign said members only, and the price was the same as the 3 other stations all around each other. Is there some benefit that they are doing, or is it just a bad business idea on their end?
There is a new Sam's near me in Oklahoma City. Their listed prices are the same as the lower cost places like 7-11 but they offer a 5 cent discount if you use your Sam's card. I filled up last week for $1.19 per gallon for premium unleaded and the closest to that was $1.24.
I don't know what their game plan is but around here they are huge with Wal Mart super centers, Sam's, and Wal Mart family grocerie stores.

I thought it was some kind of law that gas prices had to be clearly visable outside your station. They had some A-style stand up sign with the posted prices.
And unless you're a frequent customer it doesn't make sense to buy membership for that. I dont see how or why they'd venture into this.
Remember those prepaid internet gas cards... they were short lived.

It seems as though everyone is selling gas. The Tom Thumb (large grocery chain) sells thier own brand. Use thier Rewards card and save 3 cents / gal. Only up side was this weekend if you used the card they reduced the price 15 cents per gallon. Regular was at 99 cents per gallon. Premium was $1.34 for 93 ocatane. It was interesting to note that all the other stations droped thier prices for the weekend. Texaco, Chevron, Exxon, etc. all were at the same price. You gotta love competition.
