Why Are So Many Smokers Such Pigs?
good thread.
I used to flash my lights or beep at people who throw cigs out the window, but....i am sure it didn't have any effect.
I think a "unlit" cigarette will most likely decay fairly quicky. the Lit cigarette thing is annoying. We have had 2 different apartment buildings get burned (to the tune of over $1M) in the last year due to lit cigarettes pitched into the mulch....
I always wonder if the a-hole who did it ever realized it was them and if so if they stopped or even felt remotely guilty??
Nearly all of my Section 8 tenants smoke.... can't afford to pay their own rent, but can surely buy cigs!!!!!

this is pretty funny...
i take it you must be an environmentalist? i smoke and i try to toss my cigarettes into trashcans and/or ashtrays... i hardly smoke on the road but if i do, i do litter. keep this in mind though... if cigarette butts on the floor bother you so much, you should take the bus. 1 less cigarette butt on the ground = 1 less car on the road emitting some sort of harmful polutant. same concept. =)

I think this post answers your question.

The problem with the smoker-vs-driver analogy - well, one problem, at least - is that while driving is arguably a necessity, throwing a cigarette butt in the street is not.

whats funny is that this post proves just how much of a PIG some smokers can be.
Especially with that "take the bus if you dont like it post"
its DISGUSTING walking down the sidewalk and seeing hundreds of cigarette butts littered along the rain gutters along the side of the road. Totally inconsiderate and deplorable.

In California, it's illegal to throw any substance out the window of a car, except water and chicken feathers (not making that up). Anyone flicking ashes out the window is littering, let alone throwing away a butt.
Several fires here in the area have been started by smokers throwing lit butts out the window, igniting brush fires. I take this very seriously, all other health and decency issues aside. I had to help relocate 3 families from my church after their homes were destroyed by a smoker who thought the side of the road was a much better place for his cigarette than the ASHTRAY IN HIS CAR.
I call 1-800-TELL-CHP every time I see a smoker flicking anything out the window. 3 calls from citizens about such a complaint and a smoker gets a lovely ticket in the mail here, same principle as noise complaints. I keep that number on speeddial, and use it on a daily basis.
Your car has an ashtray. Use it. Or ticket. Your choice.

Unlit cigarettes do not decay quickly. Which is why we clean up tens of thousands of them on any given weekend at the beach, on a cleanup day. Despite being exposed to the elements, they just don't happily decompose and disappear.

3) I'm not quite sure how to respond to this one: the comment is both senseless and a non sequitur.
