Smile Wife's car got broke into

So some jackass (or a group of jackasses) broke into my wife's Civic last night. We live in a community that has a "secured" underground parking lot. There is a gate that opens/closes with a remote, but one of the problems is the gate stays open too long and a few cars could drive in before it actually closes. Also, there is a roaming security guard, but we all know how good they are. The community has had a problem with break-ins over the past 6 months or so.

Anyways, I went down to my car this morning and immediately noticed the driver's side window missing from my wife's car (she parks right next to me). I briefly looked in the car, and then immediately called the cops to report the incident. The SDPD is a joke. They do not physically investigate car break-ins--apparently there are too many so they just take a report over the phone. Nice.

After filing a report I went back down to the car to see the actual damage. Here are some pics:

What I think happened was this:

1. The POS broke the driver's side window.
2. The alarm went off.
3. The POS immediately popped the hood in an attempt to kill the alarm.
4. The POS was initially surprised to see no battery in the engine bay--ha ha it is in the trunk.
5. The POS then looked for various ways to kill the alarm. The person tried removing fuses, cutting various harnesses and power wires only to be PWNT by the fact that the siren will continue going off. Little did this POS know but the siren has an internal back-up battery that will sound the alarm for 30 minutes or so regardless of what wires you cut or fuses you remove.
6. The POS then realized he/she was attracting too much attention so he/she took off...basically empty handed.

Needless to say the POS got away emptied handed, but he/she did a few thousands dollars in damage. We are going through our insurance for repairs. My wife picked up the rental car earlier this afternoon. We are having the car towed to the stereo shop I use so that they can identify all that has been damaged and start repairing it. I imagine it will take about a week or so to order the various harnesses and make the repairs.

Sorry to hear that. They really did a job on those wires. Good luck with everything.

Thanks bro.

Are you saying that the stereo shop did a good job on the wiring, or are you saying that the POS car thief did a good job cutting them.

Both. They looked like they were put together nicely. The thief really hacked them up though

Well...we aren't buying a house/condo until next year. When we do buy a place it certainly won't be here. Hopefully we can survive another year without another break-in.

LOL! At least they didn't get in the trunk. Even if they did kill the alarm, they would have had a tough time getting into the trunk. The trunk key hole has been shaved off and the trunk release next to the driver's seat has been disabled. The only two ways to get into the trunk are with the remote and unlocking the back seats and folding them down.
