A look on the bright side... just another opportunity to bring it to your stereo shop just to make it harder for the POS thieves to steal your wife's car.

No surveillance cameras...but ONE roaming security guard for about 5 buildings worth of cars.
Surveillance cameras would be the biggest deterance, but the HOA doesn't want to foot the bill.

Proximity detector which actuates pager, where pager goes off before they get close enough, and first stage audible beep to let them know just so. This kept my car safe on several times before attempts could even be made. There are also infrared camera alarms out now that will take a picture of anyone coming near your car and immediately page you on the keychain pager with their picture. I dont know how well the latter works. My new alarm: Same as first mentioned, also with dei talking module with pre recorded sound of young woman getting brutally raped, along with back-up battery siren. Hood and trunk locks are also always a plus.
I also have designed an alarm for those really bad neighborhoods, that uses pressurized CSC gas and NOS solenoids with spray nozzles hidden in each outside heat/ac vent. It sprays the theif the minute he gets far enough into the car to engage the interior stage 2 prox. sensor. Yes, its failsafe, and redundant, but quite elaborate. Dont worry, he cant sue you if hes too blind to see and identify you, once you apprehend him and do him bodily justice.
