Well, technically speaking, it's called Iran now, although, I believe, the Kingdom of Persia was occupying a bigger territory than Iran.

Let me get this straight..

Italy used to be the center of the Roman empire. Back then if you were a citizen of the empire u were called Roman.

Now the Roman empire is no more. People that live in that region are called Italians. No one calls themselves Roman anymore.

If the Persian empire is no more, then why are people still called Persians?

Or is being called Persian if you are iranian or iraqi etc liken to being called Asian if you are chinese, korean, etc?

Are all arabs persian also? or all persians arabs? what defines a persian since there is no such thing as Persia anymore?

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but this is what a Persian friend once told me. She said that Persians are in fact a completely different race than Arabs. Many Persians fled Iran when the fundamentalist government took over (my friend lived in Switzerland, then moved to the U.S.). She also mentioned that Persians are actually considered caucasian by race. Persians also speak Farsi, which is a totally different language than that spoken by middle eastern arabs.

That's about all I know. Hopefully I'm not too far off, and have answered some questions.
