Default world travelers?

I'm by no means a well traveled person, but no better time to start than the present. So I'm planning a backpacking through Europe trip later this year. Just wanted to see if there are any good resources (books, websites, magazines, etc.) or even expert advice from any of you...

i have a friend, shirl, who travels to a different country every few months or so because she can't stand staying home. she's actually visiting indonesia right now. she uses "The Lonely Planet" series which is good for backpacking and exploring off the beaten path. they have a website too, but i think you'll have to purchase the books for detailed information about your destination. here's the website: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/index.cfm

a lot of research about the place you'll be visiting will also be helpful. are you planning on staying in hostels? if you are, there are many websites online that will give you reviews on hostels by people who have stayed there, i.e. which to avoid, which is the most popular, what amenities they have, location, etc...

also know some safety tips, like where you should store your passport and money. europe has a lot of gypsies and i have a lot of friends who have had their things stolen from their bags without them even knowing it!

hope this helps and HAVE FUN!

Diskoe,

The travelers are now on a PBS show called "Globe Trekker". In some cases they are just showing reruns of the shows from the Travel Channel but in other shows it is new content.
