Sorry to hear about your loss. I had a similar experience happen to me about two months ago. While I was on vacation, my mom tricked my cat into going into a trap cage and she drove to some random location and tossed him out into the streets . I tried weeks looking for him but I never found him. My cat "Meowmix" had lived with the family for almost 4 years and my parents never cared for him. I would have taken him to my apartment but they don't allow pets. I still pray that he's alive and someone is taking good care of him

He's a husky/pitbull mix. My biggest fear/nightmare (even while I had him) was that if he was to be sent to another family, they might've not accepted him and put him into a shelter and I knew if my dog was sent to a shelter, he would become paranoid and he will flip. So my parents made my nightmare come true. I hate my family. My brother has been arrested twice (first time for stealing alcohol from his job and the 2nd time was when some kid robbed a house and the kid put my brother's name. Then my brother dropped out of high school) and my parents even admitted that they gave up on him and yet they still buy him stuff. They admitted giving up on him and I guess whenever my brother did stupid stuff to piss them off they instead take it out on me. My mom even told me that my dog was like their son. My dog didnt deserve this.

The animal shelter told my friend that pretty much any random person can take any random animal and remove the tags and everything and pretty much tell them that they want the animal put down and they will do it without hesitation. One example they told my friend is that a couple got into an argument and the girl took the guy's cat and went to the shelter and she said she wanted the cat put down and they did it. I honestly think that is morally wrong.

It was the first dog that I have ever owned and I've had him for 3 years and the only survivor out of his brothers and sisters. They all died of worms. My dog was family and he was a brother to me. He was never just a dog. I'm just really angry about everything thats going on. Sorry if I'm venting but its just that I dont know what to do anymore

Sorry to hear about your dog. It sounds like a crappy situation. At least the dog is in heaven now. It also sounds like you have a lot of things to work out with your parents.

Sweet Jesus! I can't believe there are people out there that do stuff like this. I don't think I could do this to my worst enemy, much less my own child. That's F'd up to steal someone's pet but even worse to essentially give a death sentence to a perfectly serviceable pet. Weak.

To the OP, I am really sorry for your loss. I love my dogs like family and we're having some health battle with one of our babies. I hope you can take some solace in the fact that you provided your buddy a good, loving home for a very long time.

Wow... F that. I can honestly say I'd never speak with them again in my entire life if my parents pulled that on me. When I was in college my dog got hit by a car, partially recovered but he already had cancer and the injury was the end. We knew about the cancer, but the vet said he didn't seem to be in pain so we might as well wait until it worsened. When it happened it happened extremely suddenly. One weekend he was limping around (broken hips), but otherwise happy. The next he was beginning to show signs of pain so we schedules an appointment with the vet for the next weekend. Weds morning I got a call from my mom saying they had taken him into the vet and they were putting them down. Drove down that day, but I got there too late. I didn't speak with my mom for about three months after that I was so angry & hurt that she didn't call the night before.

This was.... 3 years and 10 months and some weeks ago (3rd week of January) and I'm tearing up writing this. Barring my immediate family nothing was even remotely close to as important. My best friend lost his dog the year before and spent months buried in the bottle, that's just fed up.

Thats horrible, I'm really sorry. There is absolutely no excuse for that. Your mother is a terrible person.

To the original poster, I'm really sorry. I agree with the folks who say your biggest problem should be with your parents. When they signed your dog away, they knew damn well what could happen. I can't even imagine how much it'd hurt if someone did that to my dog. When you move out and your parents can't hurt your pets anymore, get a rescue from a shelter. You obviously cared a lot about your buddy, and hopefully you can save another dog and give him a good life.

That is what I'm hoping to do real soon is to just move out and completely disconnect myself from the family. I'm never going to forget, never going to speak to them, and will never forgive them for what they did.
