Default Worst Insurance Company...

Progressive

Last Friday I had some lady cut me off from the right lane all the way to the median trying to make a U turn. I was on the left lane and tried to brake hard and swearve out of the way but unfortunately, I still clipped her pretty good so my STi has a damaged headlamp, quarter panel, doors (2), rocker panel and rear panel and now, to complete the set, 2 more scuffed wheels...

So she got a ticket as it was pretty obvious what she was trying to do. Nice lady, but still dumb as heck. Oh well. So her insurance contacts me. I have heard some horrible stories about Progressive...and unfortunately, every single one of them proved accurate to the T.

I had gotten an estimate based on some advice I got from someone that used to work at Progressive to double check the work. The estimate was on the "high" side @ $ 5,400 . I was expecting Progressive to come around $ 4,000 or so, which I could have lived with. Progressive came with $ 1,200.... WTF is he smokin'?

What upset me the most is that this cromagnon was trying to "claim" parts out of an Impreza car, not an STi...which according to the book has more expensive headlamps (HID), and wheels. He also purposely stated a wrong mileage on the car. I guess if the vehicle is over 6 months old, or 6,000 miles, they can "refurbish" parts instead of replacing them with new ones. So, after I caught a bunch of these things, the estimae escalated to $ 2,200. Still not even close to what it should be.

The wheels alone are like $ 712 a piece...but he only allocated $ 50 for "repainting them"....WTF?? Not even for shipping/handling/dismounting/remounting/balancing, etc or for alignment and ....

What pissed me off the most is that this character was rude as could be. He claimed he knew everything about everything and that just because I drove a 243 hp car (???since when to STi's have 243 hp?) I knew more than he did. He called me difficult, whiner and check this "a pain to deal with" .... to my face!!!???

It is on like King Kong...I sent a letter to my insurance company complaining about it, to Progressive's branch manager and to Progressive's VP of Customer Relations and also to the Kansas Insurance Commissioner. Anything else I should do? I don't want to wait until my car starts to fall apart. I am going to fix it regardless but I don't want to make another claim with my insurance.

'A pain to deal with'...the nerve!! :shhh: I might be one, but there is no reason why you should say that to my face! #*_(## Asshole!

Threaten them that you will get an atty. Get one of your atty friends, or a s2ki member who lives in your state to send them a nice letter. That will wake them up.

freakin morons , sorry to this happen to your new car.

Why are you even dealing with her insurance company? I don't know how it is there but out here I can call my insurance company, have them fix it, and they will go after the other person's insurance. You will have to pay your deductible until they collect but if it gets the car fixed properly and saves you a bunch of aggravation it's worth it. That's one of the things you get with an insurance policy and a good insurance company has no qualms about dealing with the other insurance company for you.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. Filing a claim with your own insurance when it wasn't your fault will increase your premium. Just be persistent and make the other owner's insurance pay for your repair. Good luck

No it won't. At least here in CA where it's an "at fault" State, if the accident is determined not to be his fault, and it sounds like this one already has been, then his rates won't be affected. Anyways, he's already informed his insurance company about the accident in a letter.

Yes, have YOUR insurance co take care of it. Don't worry, you will get your car fixed to your satisfaction! There are laws that govern insurance co's practices, so relax, you will get whats due you!

regarding insurance.

If it's completely NOT my fault (the car was parked & I was not in my car), would my insurance premium increase if my insurance company finds out about it? The lady who hits me wants to report to her insurance to have them fix my car.

Progressive sucks. They wanted $7682.58 per year to insure my chopper, State Farm is charging me $600.53! That is over 7 grand cheaper! They were 3 grand higher on my car than State Farm. How do they stay in business by ripping people off?
