Worst marketing ever! *rant*
This is more a thread about marketing and isn't really car related...so whatever.

1. So first scene is the kid at a young age asking a bike salesman: "Is it fast?" We see where his priorities are at this age, but the salesman replies "It's got 10 speeds my friend." Not the best sales-line, but at this point I'm like whatever.
2. Next scene is him talking to what I interpret as a high school kid selling his moped (or whatever). The kid, old now, still asks the same question..."Is it fast." Another half-assed (but even worse now) pitch: "It's got a lightning bolt doesn't it?"
3. Next scene is clearly from the '80s, the kid is now either in high school or college and is impressed with the mulletude'd Camaro. The kid asks the same question, "Is it fast?" at which the salesman replies: "I don't know if it's even street legal." and now I'm watching this commerical like....wtf.
Progressively the sale pitches have gotten worse and worse, but the kid's body language has demonstrated an increase in attraction to each vehicle in each scene and a subtle willingness to believe what he's being told. I find this ridiculous, each time the kid is getting so half-assed answer and each salesman is pretty much trying to pull the wool over the kids eyes, which based on his non-verbal responses seems to imply that he'd be willing to take them at their word.
4. The kid, now a man and a father, is looking at a VW Jetta, but the question is now "Is it safe." The salesman replies "Oh yeah...it's a Volkswagen."
Main point: The viewer, if paying attention, has now lost complete an utter trust for all the salesmen due to each salesman (per scene) poorly offering answers to the consumer...so why should we as the consumer trust what the final VW salesman has to say?! I was in sales for 7 years and this is huge no-no.
Now this is really the delicious icing on the cake...at the end of the commercial they play "Stranglehold" by Ted Nugent...and since trust is out the window now, my mind immediately goes to "VW's got the consumer in a stranglehold." ...like "We got ya in our POS product that we've half way talked up and you bought it because you're a gullible moron."
This commercial pisses me off.

I think it was a great commercial, expecting my first kid, I feel like I appreciate it more. I understand your points, but c'mon.......... The worst marketing is the Toyota pick up truck commercials, I cringe every time I see it. First it saves and airplane, then it goes 200mph up a sand dune, then it does a flip off a mountain, its embarrassing...............
^ Do you like the idea that the truck you are looking at can help land an airplane? The point of the commercial is how priorities change. VW is marketing to the young hipster family, so yes they probably do believe the salesman , lol

Yeah, in the Frontier commercial, there's fine print that says "Fictionalization. Do not attempt." Well if it's f@#king fiction why the f@#k are you advertising it?!

I didnt think the commercial was all that bad
Usually you tell kids bullshit things like that anyways dont you? If you are 100% pure straight to kids, or anyone, 100% of the time, say I. Sarcasm, jokes, and so on apply.
