I may have the opportunity to marry a girl looking to move to the US. Her family would pay something around $40,000. I'm in the process of looking for a house, and this down payment would help out tremendously. For her to become legal, we would need to be married for 2 years then probably another year for all the paper work to go through. In the mean time, I would get tax breaks, insurance breaks, and a nice down payment for my house

Would you guys do it? Know someone that did it? Anything?

If it helps, I'm 26 and not in a serious relationship and don't see my self wanting to get married 'for real' in the next 3 years anyone so this wont get in the way. I would also obviously get a rock solid prenup...

$40k is not worth it... that's a years worth of work at a low to mediocre job... and you're talking about 3 years of living with this person, faking a marriage, lying to authorities, missing out on potential wonderful women etc.

Just get a roommate and eat ramen.

You could very easily meet the girl who is everything you had hoped for and you will have to explain to her and probably to her family your "marriage" of conveniance. Probably not the best situation to be in.

Plus when you get divorced she's going to get half of everything you own.
