The state doesn't reward pious behavior - have you missed the separation-of-church-and-state hubbub of the last fifty years?

Oh, and it's spelled ludicrous, by the way.

You missed my other missspellingssss two. I misssssspellll alot because I type with two fingersssss andd can't look at the screen and am toooo lazy two uze spell check or proof my message bored posssts.

I get JonBoys followup. That makes more sense then the original post.

Piety has nothing to do with the seperation of church and state. And the notion of seperation of church and state has been around for more than fifty years, but thanks for the history lesson. Piety has more than one definition. Look it up. ALA KAZAAAM!!!!!

I just have a problem with those that think just because someone may have kids, (and I understand that there are huge costs that go along with that as JonBoy pointed out) people without them should not have to bring there standard of living down to prop up those with kids to a higher degree, because of the notion that those having kids are doing the rest of us such a great favor.

I don't have anything against kids, plan to have a couple someday. I also know that I have to sacrifice some of my standard of living to have them. JonBoy clarified that was not what he meant, but there are those that believe that way.

I was not suggesting that everyone else make less money or make do with less in their life for my benefit.
We'll we are because when you pay less taxes we pay more.

$3100 isn't chump change but it isn't a "huge" tax break, either.
So you get $3100 for the choice and pleasure of having a child while I get nothing. Meanwhile I'm helping to pay for your kid to go to public school rather or not she goes.
Nice.

You get tax breaks for owning a home
You get tax breaks on the taxes you pay on the home (taxing tax doesn't make sense now does it) and on interest. This is Just because you're too poor to pay cash for your home why do I have to make up the difference of your tax break on interest. Owning a home is a choice. If we didn't have tax breaks on homes, home prices would go down and more people could afford them of course it all balances out in the end. This is stealing from peter to pay paul mentality.

If you pick on "family tax breaks", start pointing at all the others.
It ain't my fault if your blind or disable or you husband or wife died. Flat tax rate fore everyone. I don't care how much you make or how little. It's not my fault you have a bad job and its not a sin that your doing well

I still fail to see how I am digging into a single person's pocket by having a family and paying less taxes.
When you pay less the difference has to come from somewhere, guess where.

Also note that I am giving substantially to charity and he is not, which is giving me an extra tax break, contributing to my extremely low tax burden.
Great so you get to choose that the taxes your supposed to pay get to go to the dwarf art awareness foundation instead of fixing our roads or paying for our military or helping to find a cure for aids or the governments billions to the victims of the tsunami. That's wonderful How come I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that most charities aren't efficient and that a lot of the nations money went to pay someone to attempt to select money from me at dinner time over the phone. You made a choice to give to a charity rather or not its a good charity is going to be a matter of personal interpretation. Why is the government subsidizing this? More directly, why am I paying higher taxes for your choices?

This all sounds pretty harsh, but I get what you're saying. But taxes are always going to be unfair. My grandparents pay taxes that pay for roads, yet they've always driving about once a month. I would guess we all pay for state schools, yet I went to a private college. Wow, I just realized how far off topic this is...

As someone who was married for a long time and now has been not married for quite awhile, I guess I can recommend both. The key, as several peeps have mentioned, is to find the person you really LIKE as well as love. Having common interests, values and goals is of utmost importance. Passion for the other person is mandatory, too - the kind where you still think the person is hot after the initial lust wears off. I have no plans to remarry simply because it makes no sense for me to do it again, although I expect to be in a committed relationship with someone.

Anybody see that SNL skit with Garth Brooks in the NBC Smurf mini-series?

"Ohhhhhhhh Smurfette!! I wanna smurf all over your smurf."

I think that directly relates to this thread because they had about two dozen male smurf, but not one of them wanted to marry the only female smurf.

I still don't see any good argument for getting married beyond "Well, everybody else is doing it."

How, pray tell, would it actually make people happier?
