My wife and I have discussed this and we are in agreement, if it's time to go, let us go.

I wonder if by law our family members can use our post to decide what to do.

Politics aside. Forget politics. If you were in control and your decision was followed through on, what would you do? I guess Tedow is correct in that terminal illness and a vegetative state are two different things although many terminally ill patients eventually do slip into comas and or a vegetative state. The main question still remains though. If you are terminally ill, you can still make your wishes know and a DNR order can be posted. Doesn't mean they will be respected but you can make them known and can even go places to check out. Being in a vegetative state and how you would want to die is the real question. If you couldn't make your wishes known, what would you want to happen to you?
BTW. Make it know now. Get a will drawn up and document your wishes. Don't make somebody else make that decision for you. Especially your wife, husband, children or parents.

I wouldn't want to be kept alive. Either drug-induced or DNR death would be fine.

Personally, I don't see being alive as a vegetable and being outright dead as very different. The big difference, IMO, would be the fat hospital bill and continued emotional disturbance of loved ones. If I were allowed to die, at least the loved ones could have closure, and my soul could get on its merry way to Hell.

Vegetative state - I've got a time limit specified, then pull the plug. A guy I know came out of a coma after two years and fully recovered.

13 years is way to long to wait.

Terminally ill - At some point, I'll want my feeding tube removed.

No drugs, I don't want anyone feeling like they caused my death.

I posted the same poll in the vintage forum with another choice. Be put out on an iceberg with the other vintage folks.

Cyber: See you there!
