"Microsoft said it plans to disclose 385 bits of computer code and internal operating rules, previously kept secret"

FYI, 385 BITS is:
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa1

^-- That is 385 (the "1" represents 1 bit, the "a"s are 8bits) bits.

I SURE hope they mean 385 pieces of source code, as opposed to really 385 bits!!

i really don't think that microsoft would ever turn windows into an open-source linux-style OS.

at least not soon.

That's because they were forced to, we all know damn well they wouldn't have done it otherwise.

It doesn't matter. The consent decree is worded in such a way that MS can withhold pretty much anything they want. So they get to pick what parts of the source to release. Bottom line is they get to maintain their monopolistic practices but pretend as if they've leveled the playing field. That's why some states have held out from this deal - it's a joke.

Most companies withhold the information that gives them an edge over all the others..... KFC have held their original mix for the coating on their chicken secret for years, but they haven't been taken to court to try to get them to reveal it!!!!

I always thought their sauce was a watered down Thousand Island kinda thing.

Gosh, I haven't had a BigMac in years. Way too much fat!
