Default Wtb: Itr?

Well as some of you may know, I have a child on the way and I am selling my car.

I am currently considering a GTI 337 or an ITR.

If anyone has any leads on any ITRs for sale (preferably MY00-01, but doesnt have to be) I would appreciate a heads up.

a year ago, i bought a 1997 itr with 5k miles on it and hated it from day one.... i sold it with 11k miles about 5 months later.... it was too noisy to ride with the family (80mph = HELLA NOISE inside), it got beat in almost every race (including getting SMOKED by an E36 M3), and I didn't even feel that it handled nearly as well as the S2000... I got completly dusted by a WRX in a drag race too...and a mustang....and my dad's S2000....and so on and so on... ahaha..

I would try to get in one for a weekend to see if you like it... it cost me about $3k to figure out that i hated it (purch price plus tax minus selling price).

the gearing was fairly low, but with only 5 speeds, forth runs out at 120mph and it took me about 3 miles to finally hit 145mph (indicated)....in 5th gear....

after all of that rambling..... have you tried a used WRX? about the same cost as a used ITR.

No other cars seem to be that great in that price range....

um... if the itr was that bad, how did they win all the trophies 3 straight years?

And plus it consistently beat and the e36 in a real race EVERY TIME. If you don't believe me, go watch speedvision.

It's such a great car and handling was so great. I do agree the noisy part.. but it is a race car so what do you expect.

However, ITR is not a good family car.. I do agree with the WRX, but it is so damn ugly... (at least to me).

Thanks for the insight Scot.... I have never been behind the wheel of a Type R, only a GSR which I know is not nearly the same. I really should find someone local and have them give me a ride and left me get behind the wheel.....

I have considered the WRX, but I think their too damn ugly. The other car I am banging my head over now is the GTI 337.. you seen it yet?

http://www.vw.com/gti337

Very bad ass for $23k. Its a little more than the ITRs Ive been looking at as Ive seen them going from 18-24k. The ITR I am seriously considering now is a flawless 2001, with 10,000 miles on it for $20k.

I left a '96 GSR for a '97 Type R and though different, I don't think they're really all that different. Yes, the R stiffer than the GSR and a bit noisier than the GSR, but nothing like the S in either regard. If you want to drag everyone out there, go get a Camaro Z28. If you want a good sportscar that seats 4 and looks pretty good, I'd go with the R.

Scot - maybe you would have done better if you had raced everyone in reverse.

It seems like you didn't know the right mods. I've raced a buddy's ITR and it dusted me, and kept up with another buddy's modified S. Seems like the final drive really made the difference on the ITR, at the drags that is.

Several mustangs got killed that day by the ITR, and went home with their tail between their legs... it was a sight to see!!

But not everyone likes to waste lots of $ on mods! I like to stay mostly stock.

That is totally stripped out modified cars (not a street car vs street car), and I think it only beats the E36 325's, not the M3's (the M3's are in the bigger race against the porsches if i am not mistaken).

I was just dissappointed as I was expecting (after reading everyone's posts in the ITR groups) the car to be wonderfull. It was slightly faster than my old GSR, but nothing close to the S2000 in terms of fun.

Realtime TYPE R won every race and beat all the e36 body style including M3 the past 3 years. you have to understand ITR is not a drag racing car. it is not all about the 0-60 or 1/4 miles. it is the over all performance. Please go to speedvision.com and you may find more informations.
