I am a big boxing fan, but I refuse to watch this Idiot since his EAR incident (I paid to watch that ).

You get your just deserts!

I've followed Mikes career from the very first fight, and honestly believe (like many people) that he's the greatest ring fighter (not boxer) that has ever lived, but a series of unfortunate events led to the Mike we have today, which is far from his potential.

In all honesty, it started with the death of Cus D'Amato, everything after that is trivial. People can say that Mike was a better fighter in '87 than he was in '85, but the heart was leaving him little by little, and with that happening, the weight just became too much.

When Buster Douglas beat Tyson in '90, it was evident that something was wrong, and unfortunately, things will probably never be right again.

Could you please elaborate on this point? As in, how do you quantify that he is the greatest ring fighter (but not boxer) that ever lived? I'm not disagreeing with you or agreeing with you here, just genuinely curious as to what you mean.

i'm guessing he meant by style.. boxing has many styles

the regular boxing where you have nice moves

and the slugging kind of boxing where you knock out someone right away.

the sweet science of boxing as performed by pernell "sweetpea" whittaker is what purists say is boxing. tyson was a fighter, he mixed brutal aggression with power shots and great head movement. he never had a classical approach where he led with a dominant jab like holmes or ali.
i too agree that he is a fighter/ brawler

If d'Amato had lived on who knows how great Tyson could have been.

Tyson was too young to deal with that pimp, Don King.
