WTH - How did this gas pump ignite (vid)
Freaky, especially after seeing the myth busters where they could not get gas to ignite with a cig. I know it is the fumes that are more flamable then the actual gas itself, but this caught me off guard. Static shock maybe?

Static, she's playing with her sweater, got in and out of the car which is sitting on rubber tires that are not grounded etc.
It's part of the reason ( at least in Canada) why they took that auto fill levers off the pump nozzels
You can throw a lit cigarette in to a pail of gasoline and it will snuff it out, but play around with it a couple inches above and the fumes will ignite.

Just goes to show that leather seats are better. Every single time I get out of my cousin's Santa Fe with cloth seats I get shocked closing the door. Also, I think Mythbusters said that young women are more likely to have this happen because they like to go back in the car if its cold or whatever. Old people are less likely to have this happen because they usually grab on the the sides of the car to help them get out. INteresting.

I think her reaction was calmer than mine would have been. I'm not sure I would have been trying to remove the hose from the car like she did.
