I am definately going to get Xbox when it comes out. The specs crush the PS2. Microsoft is going to build an excellent console with some excellent 3rd party support no doubt, but I bet the Microsoft prices are going to be outrageous. Despite the pricing, which has not been confirmed as far as I know, I will be getting Xbox.

I think you'll be surprised at MSFT's pricing. Bill Gates has stated that he is using a different strategy than Sony and some of the others like to use. He stated that on release day, pretty much anyone that wants to go to the store and buy one will be able to. I think he will price games very competitively since he's trying to corner this market.

Just building a better box doesn't mean everything (Apple) ... what really matters in consoles is the quantity and quality of the games (software) ...

Have fun,
Derek

I was reading in USA Today (a few months ago) that both the Game Cube and X-Box will require additional equipment to play DVDs. . . Though this may not seem like a huge deal, it may end up costing Nintendo and Microsoft market share. . .

The bottomline, Microsoft and Nintendo are going to have to work very hard to eat into Sony's brand equity and market share. . . In terms of dollars, its obvious that Microsoft has an edge. However, as most MBA's will tell you, dollars and even a better product do not always guarantee success (i.e., Apple, AmericaWest, Beta vs VHS, EuroDisney, etc.). . .

It'll be interesting to see how the market shapes up. . .

As an aside, the WSJ had an article today (8/16) about the potential market for PC-TV (such as Tivo). Interesting article, only time will tell. . .

Halo was announced like three years ago. It's total vaporware. It's certain to disappoint.

X-Box is M$'s opportunity to capture the market for consumer desktop hardware. They're going to sell below-cost computers under the guise of a console. We'll see peripherals rolled out that will turn this thing into a powerful desktop system that runs full-blown Windows, I bet.

As for developer support, Abe's Oddworld is an ok game, but Bungie hasn't produced anything recently except ONI (YUCK!!! What a POS that was.) .... the real prize will be all the PC games that will be ported so easily (if they even need to be ported).

Yeah Halo was gonna be the next great multiplayer PC game, then it got yanked to xbox only, then got the multiplayer removed since the xbox network stuff wasn't finalized soon enough. Screw them.

The xbox will need some killer games if its gonna survive. Gamecube is rumored to come out with a $199 pricetag and the ps2 is rumored to drop to that same price when the cube and xbox come out. The xboxs showing at E3 was pretty laughable...
But I'll buy any console if its got a game I want to play...
I didn't pick up a ps2 til gt3 came out and its the only game I have, probably will remain so until mgs2 comes out.

Windows sux and they have been working on it a long the time.
You will need a harddrive and modem on the Xbox to download patches.
Hopefully it will come with a CTL+ALT+DEL button
So now they are going to do hardware and software. Have fun.
Can you tell I really don't like MicroSoft?

They just had an article in the LA Times about the xbox and how it might be behind schedule. Bill Gates is going to losea lot of money selling those boxes. He's hoping to make that up in the games that he sells. He wants to make sure there are enough xbox's for the holiday season, so that they don't get into the problems that Sony had with the PS2 launch.
