Default yet another alcohol thread: why do you vomit?

why do people vomit when they drink? is it because body rejects the posion/alcohol....because body cant process it?

if thats the case then why can sometimes you drink alot and others not very much/why would what kind of drink it is matter?

combination of everything?

i imagine its a combination of your body rejecting the alcohol and acute montion sickness (because the fluid in your ear is sooo thinned out that you mess up your gyros very easily)

I don't know the scientific approach, but personally I'll puke if I have more than one type of drink in one night or after one another, sometimes they just don't mix well... also sometimes I puke cuz I ate something and then drank something, and they just don't go together well sometimes..

The good thing about puking is that you don't really care... if I puked in any other circumstance, I'd immediately look to brush my teeth, chew gum, and wash my mouth... When I'm drunk, It doesn't really bother me ...

If my understanding is correct, you're on the right track. Alcohol is a poison. Vomiting is one of your body's natural defense mechanisms for ridding itself of poison. However, as with other poisons, different people have different tolerance levels. Further, small doses can result in immunity being developed...hence the people who have to drink a 12-pack to get drunk (and Wesley's immunity to Iocane Powder ). One's tolerance for toxin is also related to body mass (more tissue to absorb/diffuse the stuff, I guess). As for how different kinds of drinks affecting people goes, I'd say it's probably just due to different absorption rates...possibly there's some psychosomatic affects there too. I don't think I've ever had a problem mixing BEvERages, despite the old "Liquor before beer, you're in the clear. Beer before liquor, never sicker" adage.

All that said, I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV .

Drink 2 gallons of anything in a short period of time and you will blow chunks!

By the way....never eat maccarroni and cheese before drinking. You will projectile spew like in the excorsist. Like a power paint sprayer. Like cottage cheese through a wood chipper. Now I'm grossed out.
