I just got my iphone 2 days ago through AT&T online. It was an upgrade from my LG Shine. Got it in 2 days. Easy to set up as well.

Actually, yes, I agree with that. I was thinking more along the lines of "phone issues" than of establishing an account/plan. Most of my experience with what you're describing was handled with Apple's online activation, which was alright.

Should have qualified what I meant...sorry about that

If you qualify for a FAN discount, you'll only be able to get it set up during purchase at an AT&T store. Check with your school/employer. I got 15% off my monthly bill from UNC.
