Default Yorkies

I'm in the market for a dog, specifically a Yorkie. I found a great deal for one, the owner is saying its a pure breed. Only 8 months old female 4lbs. Can anyone give me some tips on how to spot "fake" and or half-breed Yorkies? I know some owners dye the fur and stuff..

I wanna say half breed because of the fur, its too long to be only 8 months..

Any reason you are insistent on a pure bred? My half breed Yorkiepoo is an awesome dog, smart like a poodle and less yippie. Best dog I've ever had.

Might drink all your beer though...

I guess it’s not a registered dog? If so, I assume it’s priced accordingly.

Have you checked with local rescue groups? I’m a big advocate for adoption, and there is a group for about every breed (it may take some patience to find the right dog).

A pure breed would be registered with one of the kennel clubs (preferably AKC). Ask for registration...an 8 month old pure yorkie still for sale is hard to find, they usually go quickly.

Be careful, a lot of Afghan angora mountain rats are being passed off as Yorkies to unsuspecting buyers. It's hard to tell the difference but the rats are usually a little larger with much nicer fur.

Hey Chris, I think the only reason why I want a purebreed is because they look better than half-breed.. that's just me. I've been wanting one for so long but like someone said, they're hard to find and go quick especially when trying to adopt one. If I can't find one, I have no problems settling with a half-breed. Nice yorkiepoo you got there! Could pass off as a purebreed in that pic haha.
