If you can find a gay person who "chose" to be gay, let me know.

I disagree. i feel the more we explore thought process and talk about differences the more understanding we will gain from both perspectives.

A person who disagrees with homosexuality (or any other social issue for that matter) may start to question the archaic and over-bearing regiment that may govern their belief system and become more understanding of the situation and reality at hand. These are viable people with wants and rights just like the rest of us.

Flip that coin and someone who may be championing the cause of the homosexuals may discover that there is a natural "counter-culture" aspect to their cause and that a totally utopian existience to them may not ever be achieved because of what may ultimately be an unwaivering perception against the idea they present either from a social or natural order of things.

The more that is discovered and the more people put thought into what is presented to them, the greater the probability that a true cooperative understanding can be reached. This will not happen unless people learn to sit down and be cerebral enough to comprehend what is being said and be open to the possibility that, to some degree, the thought processes on both sides may be flawed to some degree.

To me, it is much ado about many things....

Arguments can be made for both sides of that issue. there are plenty of people that found their way to homosexuality through early development abuse and general stimulus at developmental stages.

Your "when did you choose to like women?" comment did ring very truthful to me and made me evaluate some of my concepts regarding this whole nature Vs. nurture debate.

I concede the fact that many homosexuals are predisposed to that sexuality from birth either because of hormonal unbalancing or other mitigating circumstances but the argument still has to be made that it is still counter to the basic function of the human animal.
Most of your post was excellent (actually, the whole thing was) so I'm going to pick on this part. You're right that from an evolutionary standpoint, pure homosexuality is a dead end "trait", but since it's been around for at least a couple millenniums, there must be more to it than that. And somewhat ironically, I'm always amused that the most virulent opposition to recognizing homosexual unions/marriage comes from the Mormon and Catholic churches. They're going to out-breed them, no reason to spread the hate.

Anyway... Whether it's nature or upbringing isn't really relevant. The gays I've met (referring to men in this context) didn't ever actively choose to like men or women. They always liked men, though many went to great lengths to conceal that fact throughout school. Dealing with people like r_duff on a daily basis for a decade can make you question yourself, especially when that person is a parent or sibling.

I'm almost 40 and still deal with it on a daily basis... however I can't say anything because of what I do. If I did I would stir a whole shit can of bees and I kind of like my pay!!
