Here's my four year old specs:

Dell P3 550 MHz
512 MB PC100 SDRAM
80 GB Seagate 7200 RPM HD
20 GB Maxtor HD
nVidia GeForce 3 Ti 200 64 MB video card
DVD-ROM
4x CD-RW
19" Trinitron monitor

I guess it's time for an upgrade though it works great for anything I do on it. Plenty of storage and with 512 MB of RAM the processor isn't really a liability unless I want to try a newer game, but that's what the PS2 and GC are for.

I have always used and will always use Giga-Byte motherboards... stable as hell, cool looking, and very intelligently designed

No pic at the ready but the centerpiece of my machine is the monitor. I told myself if and when I find a better one, I'll buy it. Well, I STILL haven't seen anything that even comes close to my wide-screen 1600SW. I'm not a gamer so I don't need an ultra-fast computer (HP Athlon 900mhz, 256MB Ram, 20GB WD, 32MB Rev Number 9 with digital interface, etc) nor am I a download junkie but I do crave ultra-high resolution and this thing is a .23 dot pitch masterpiece. Some of the photos posted here on the S2000 when used as background on this monitor are simply breathtaking. They look almost 3-dimensional. The advantage to running a computer of my kind is how stable it is with this monitor. This definitely is NOT a monitor for gamers because finding a graphics card suitable without the $550 multi-link adapter (no longer sold by SG) is nearly impossible. The funky digital interface on this monitor isn't used by ANY card manufacturers anymore, they're all DVI. Still, there is nothing quite like it. Resolution is 1600x1024 and the current crop of wide-screens are horrible when A-B'd against the 1600SW. So, my car is quick but my computer isn't so much, but it sure does look purty.

ok, i am in the process of building a computer, and i don't know which way to go.

I see the systems on iBuyPower and they look cool....

But, anyone have any experience with them? or what i should get?

I want this to be an inexpensive gamming system. NIce HD, 512 memory, the standard stuff... a really nice video card that won't break my wallet... any ideas people?

Build One, usually the cheapest way to go... Get a nice processor, decent motherboard, good mem, get DDR ram, and if you want go with a 128mb vid card, or even a 256,.. from experience i can tell you im in love with this computer, but it wasnt exactly cheap.. im mostly in love with the vid card and its performance. If you want check out Alienware.com, there are diff versions of my comp. Mine is mainly used for gaming, I love it, check out the specs.

A $12,000 computer? That's ridiculous. That is way past the point of diminishing returns.
