Your Computer
I assume most folks on this forum run IBM compatible machines running Windows. I use an iMac G3 with a cable modem/ISP. I love the iMac even though I know it is treated like an ugly stepchild by the industry even though it's faster than a Pentium III and has superior graphic capabilities. Anyone else here run a Mac?
Let's see... at home...
1.) Dell Inspiron 5000 (PIII 766 / 256 MB RAM)
2.) Home grown PIII 700 / 512 MB RAM
3.) Various 'other' pc's (firewalls, routers, etc)
And I don't care how fast a MAC is or will ever be, there will NEVER be one in my house - unless my wife wants one (cause they are girls computers)

I like the mac but I have too great an investment in PC software to switch. I thought about it because I really only use the PC for simply UI oriented tasks like Web browsing, graphics and document prep. I do most of the real work on Linux. Anybody seen the new KDE 2.0?? Very nice but I've been burned by Linux on the desktop for years. Just when I think I can switch I realize that it's just easier to use windows instead. I think I'll keep the Windows desktop for some time to come.
yes, g3's have more clock cycles per second. but comparing g3 clock speed to x86 clock speed is apples and oranges, they have different architectures. every computer i own is x86, at home i use win2k and i work on linux and freebsd.
the exception to the rule is my original 1984 mac 512k with external 3.5" floppy drive and external 30MB hard disk. yes, i had a 30MB drive for that old clunker. still plays the best damn game of slots of any computer i've ever seen.
i've been debating turning my home machine linux (i don't think freebsd is very practical as a desktop workstation, not enough hardware support) for a while now, but i'm deeply set in win32 software. i'd need a bad crash to get me to switch.
