I worked at a shoes store back in high school. One customer comes in and said "Why don't you carry any American made shoes? I only buy American." I told him, "What kind of car do you drive?" He said "BMW."

What does being a patriot and owning a foreign car have to do with one another. I'm a little confused here! That's like saying if you don't eat Kosher beef your not a Jew. What kind of crap is this. Being a patriot has nothing to do with what you own it's a thing of the heart and soul. It has to do with the essence of freedom. Did you realize that our fore fathers fought with german and english made muskets when they fought for their independance. The same independance that we celebrate today. My God are we at the point in this country, that its what you own that counts and not what is in the heart? This whole conversation makes me sick. What kind of TV do you own and who hell cares. Did you know that more than 60 % the parts on a Harley Davidson are foreign parts.

My God I'm being sucked into this stupid conversation. It doesn't matter. Did our fathers worry about their cars and homes when they were asked to fight for their country in WWI and II. I can't believe that we are even having this dicussion. I'm sick!

Tell the fool that until 1997 the Honda Civic was the ONLY mass market automobile sold in the United States that was completely assembled by America workers with American parts.

Oh yeah, I thought bigots were out of style already.

Or you might have said:

What is an American car? You tell me. How about a Honda made in Ohio? Or maybe a Ford made in Mexico? Or a Chevy that's also a Toyota? Or a Volvo ...

ya he's a dumb ass

I feel that by purchasing the crap the American auto industry is putting on the streets, I'm hurting them in the long run by encouraging them to keep making the same crap. By purchasing Japanese cars, I'm encouraging them to make better products that would appeal to me. So in a way, I'm more patriotic than he is. I would prefer to buy an American car, but I can't find a single one that would be my first choice in any class of vehicle from small car to truck. They have come a long way since the 80's but they still have a ways to go to get my money.

Can you say SUV? Why can't they compete by making efficient, fun/practical vehicles instead?

This should be asked to the same Palestinians who were cheering and celebrating on their streets. I noticed at least 2 Ford Transits. No doubt the least, they probably don't know why they're driving is an American product.
