Default Your wisdom teeth removal experiences

Well I've finally decided to get all four of my wisdom teeth out tomorrow, as they are all impacted. The surgeon said that having all four impacted is going to be one of the more "uncomfortable" variations of getting wisdom teeth removed (anesthesia and surgically removing them). I'm just curious as to what all of your experiences have been with getting them removed (if you've had to get them removed).

Any tips/tricks to make the few days after the procedure easier on myself? What are some good foods to eat? I've had major surgery before, but not on a part of the body as sensitive and vital as the mouth.

I'm not supposed to eat tonight or tomorrow morning due to the general anesthesia....

my bottom two were serverly impacted. But my top two were just fine. My only advice is to take all their advice. It doesn't hurt once you're drugged up lol. They gave me some oxycodene when it was done and it just put me to sleep. The second day does hurt more than the first though. But just take the medication and go to sleep. My advice is to sleep as much as you can! When you sleep, you can't feel the pain. Also, brushing your teeth carefully and eating very soft foods so that they dont get stuck in the back. Mostly liquid stuff. I ate alot of custard. And slept for about 20 hrs per day. Hope all goes well!

ok just recently had one tooth removed:
-because it was only one i elected to have only a local.
i could still feel the area and had the doc inject a little more, as it winds up to much because i could not swallow for a time. sometimes they inject the junk near your nose and it will sting. talk to the doc about what to expect here because i bolted out of the chair.
-this is serious drugs and no pain during the procedure, lots of stress tho. they grab the tooth and pry it out. there is no middle ground here. there is a crunchy sound as sometimes it dosnt remain intact. if you can take this in stride, and only you know yourself, just get a local. if you elect to go under you will need to be driven home and someone will need to help fill the prescription. get a good friend to help out. this is what they are for, use them.
-they put one stitch to hold the gum together, the stitch went away in a week.

-i drove back to work that day no big (i had a local).
-as the drugs dissipated there was no big level of pain. i had a prescription but did not use it. with all 4 teeth i would get some serious drugs and use it alot and not plan to goto work the next day(s). Friday afternoon, gives you the whole week end, maybe Monday too. get some stuff to sleep too.
-a day later it felt like i took a big punch in the face. with all 4 teeth gone this will HURT. my tong felt bad too, the doc must have done something to it. it was a consistent medium level pain so you will tire of it in a big way. lasted 1-2weeks
- get some food:
whey protein power, milk, soda pop, crystal lite, room temperature stuff. plan some easy to do events that dont include eating. drugs and drinking is always bad, just stay with drugs. dont fight the war on drugs, demand some excellent stuff.

put ice packs on both of your cheeks immediately following surgery and just keep them on for the first day, at least. take the drugs and enjoy them

the ice packs should help some, but it will still suck for the first few days.

I had all four out at once. The oral surgeon gave me a prescription for Tylenol with codeine, telling me to take one an hour after the surgery and as needed after that. I took one an hour after the surgery as instructed - though I wasn't in any particular pain - and threw the rest away. It never really hurt much.

there is always one in the crowd

i think with all 4 teeth drug free is more effort than its worth. then again you are going to have the pain for at least a week and a half so you cant be high all that time

get some instant milk shake stuff for the first few days. dont worry about eating it is impossible to starve in america. after that chew with care as if you hit your back gums while eating it will light up every neuron you got.

I could get used to this.

I am going into general anesthesia and a friend is going to take me and stay there the whole time. I used tylenol with codeine with a few previous medical incidents and it seemed to work well. I've taken off work until next Thursday just in case. Any of you encounter "dry sockets"?
