Z06 v. 911 Turbo...Winner = ?????
Just wondering which car would be more likely to win this race.
I'm not counting the 911 GT2 which is a freakin' weight-reduced monster, but just a stock Z06 v. a stock 911 Turbo (996).
Assuming driver talent is roughly the same...which car would you pick to win this race?
Also assume all types of scenarios (0-60, slaloms, high speed traps, sharp turns...).
Which one would have the best lap times?
As much as I love both cars, I think MAYBE the Turbo would inch out the Z06...not sure though.

Supposedly the new ZO6s should break into the 3s

Here's an xerpt of a road test I found by using that wonderful search engne called "Google":
The new Porsche 911 Turbo with a manual gear box is about 0.3 to 0.4 seconds faster all around, while the auto-shifting Tiptronic model delivers much the same numbers as a hand shifted Z06. However that Teutonic thrill ride will set you back $110,000 versus the Z06?s $50,000 asking price. Chevrolet claims that the new 405 HP Z06 and its extra 15 pound-feet of torque (now 400 pounds at 4800 rpm) will do 0-60 in under 4 seconds with a quarter mile run coming up in just 12.4 seconds. While that sub-4 second number is somewhat questionable, these new for 2002 engine mods should ease any mano a mano anxieties should you run up against a manual shifter Turbo.

True, price is a freakin' bargain for the Z06.
It's amazing what you get for half the price of a 911.
But damn, I think these cars are so close to equal.

the price of Z06 is unbeatable
Road and Track had an article a few months ago, in which they did a road course and 1/4mi tests for a bunch of cars, 2002 Z06 and 2001 911 Turbo being among them. I was flabergassed to find out that Z06 is a little faster ALL AROUND than the 911. 911 was faster 0-30 (not even 0-60), and its corner exit speeds were faster because of the all wheel drive, but the Z06 beat it on the track and the 1/4.

is likely to achieve faster times in the 996TT than in the Z06...
