My buddy recently got some 17x9 +35s and he had 255s from his old wheels he tried to fit and just couldn't do it without rubbing. I guess when I say I want it to work I want to be able to make them fit with less than -4 in the rear and not rub under most driving conditions.
There is a pic of his car. I think he posted it a couple pages back.

he had his camber maxed out and it still was rubbing. I wouldn't be as slammed so that might make some difference but I dunno if it'll be enough.
I want a setup that'll look good and let me run a 255 out back and still let the car handle great. Maybe I'm asking for too much.

Not dumped enough. Our stance is at the point where we are tucking more than half of the rear tire's profile. The lower you go, the more negative camber you can get out of it in a sense.
IE.

that looks really good.
