crazy offsets only...
i know that this is going to sound very noobish so i am a bit hesitant to ask, but why do so many of you work so hard to make these super low offsets fit just to run stock size tires. it i were going to do all the fender modding that you guys do, it would be to fit some beefy tires. i could be wrong, but couldn't you run a much wider rim with an offset to make them stick out the same amount that these low offset rims do, so you would have the amazing look that you guys have, but also be able to fit something like a 275,285, or even 295 tire in the rear? yes it would not sound as impressive to be running a +60 offset rim, "number made up", but if you were running an 11 or 12 inch wide wheel with a 285 wide tire i think that you would get just as much if not more respect.
all that said, i greatly respect the amount of work that goes into most of these setups, and they truly do look amazing, i am just curious why so few are running the aggressive tires to match the aggressive wheels.
keeping in mind that i am bone stock with the exception of my coilovers.

^ i get what you are saying, but the tire would not necessarily take away from the look of the rim. picture the best, most amazing setup in this thread using a 9.5 rim and a 245 or 255 tire. how much extra room is there between the back of the rim and the frame of the car or the suspension components? 1,2,3 inches? so if you took a wheel that would put the face of the rim in the same exact place, but the back side extended back and extra 1-2 inches, or however much fit, you could put a tire that was 1-2 inches wider and it would not change the look from anywhere but straight behind, right?
i know that this would be much more difficult and probably much more expensive, especially the tires. but with how much some of you have invested in your cars i am just suprised that not many if any are taking this approach. especially on the cars that see a lot of track time.
i am not trying to bash, because i really do think that what you guys do IS amazing. i just think that if i ever got the balls to go for a super aggressive setup, my gaol would be to not only see how wide of a stance i could get, but how wide of a tire it was possible to fit.

Im pretty sure it is just new territory for a S2K to be running super wide rims and aggressive offsets. It seems like the bar is being pushed to a new level every day. Heck, i'm looking to upgrade my current 9" +20 and 9.5" +23 for a wider 10" +33 and 11.5" +48, doing exactly what you have stated... keeping my outer position the same and add 1" to the front inner postion and add 2" to the rear inner postion allowing wider tires.

Some crazy stuff here. I would never roll my fenders, and do all these crazy mods that might damage my body panels or paint. Props for being brave.
The reason is that the lip size and wheel face options would suffer.
Not everyone runs a custom wheel where they can reap the benefits of an aggressive tire size and decent lip.

ok that makes sense.

and i'm sure that you will, but please post lots of pics when you do this.
