Impressive...I got my permit to carry about 4 months ago...gotta go and pick a gun. Any suggestions? The only gun I've ever shot is a .22 rifle.

Both guns are very reliable and easy to fix. Some say that the Glock is an ugly gun, and it is, and some (few) shoot all over the place. But when it is used as a defensive weapon, which will be at close range, an inch doesn't matter.I prefer Sig's myself, but they are double action, while the Glock is double action ONLY, it is easier to use as a beginner. The price is also better.
As far as caliber....9mm, .40 cal, and .45 are the most popular.
