naw...you're not old..you just care about function vs. bling-bling.
just hope the neon doesn't turn into an all show/no go vehicle.
actually.. going from an 01 V6 accord with intake and exhaust, and going into a 93 civic hatchback that runs basically on flintstone power is humbling....

hmm..yikes... i know i slipped up on my accord, but i didn't go that far
here's what my accord looked like:
i'll admit, it had certain rice qualities, but no flames or fuzzy dice... you might have to bring "JR" to one of the s2k meets...I'll straighten him out

Dont let him do that,,, hes only doin it cause its one of few things he can do..., if he wants to do somthing to a neon, tell him to turbo it with an eclipse motor conversion, or sell it, there is a kid with an 02, that lives next door to me and its fast, and looks good, for as much money he put into it though he could of gotten like an 00' S2000
Carmen,
I did basically the same sort of thing with my Civic Si. It wasn't for the extra power (none), or looks, but for the sound. I didn't want something obnoxiously loud, but the standard Si exhaust was so quiet I couldn't even hear the engine running until I hit VTEC. I love the exhaust I have now, it makes the car much more enjoyable, and mentally it seems faster even though I know it's not.
I think what your son is looking at probably makes the most sense assuming he has heard another car with this same setup. If not, try to find another Neon he likes the sound of and find out what they've got. You could end up with something really bad if you're not sure what you're getting.
Exhaust info: My Civic exhaust basically comes in three pieces: Catalytic Converter, mid-pipe, and muffler. A Cat back muffler means you'll be getting a larger mid-pipe and muffler. This is the best for all out performance but still won't gain you much unless you're planning on a turbo or s/c upgrade later. An axle back muffler (what I have) uses the stock mid-pipe and bolts a new muffler onto that. This gives less power but the sound is probably just as good as a full cat-back. Axle back's aren't too common, so people end up cutting the mid-pipe or the pipe portion of the stock muffler and welding on a new one. This is the cheapest way to go as well and sounds like what Autozone is doing.
So, in conclusion, this is a good idea if he just wants a better sound from his car. This was the first modification I made to my car and for my money it's the best bang for the buck.
Hope this helps
