Default Itching to do some Modding

I have had my S for just over a year now, and I really want to do something to separate my car from the rest. I don't have a lot of cash, and I was curious if anyone knows of some affordable mods I could get done. I read about removing the resonator from the exhaust. Has anyone done this? Is it worth it? Maybe I should save up my money to get a sticky set of S02s or Yokohama Advans for the Dragon. I can hardly wait for my first meet...

Let me know what you guys think

Ask Tim (efthimios) about the resonator thing. I think he removed his before he bought an exhaust.

I cut out the resonater in my stocker...sounded better than stock but nothing crazy...not a mod that your going to be super impressed with.....much much much better off saving a few bills up and waiting for a good deal on a used exhaust.....if you want your car to look different then buy a set of wheels...what a huge difference in the S's appearance....or even just lowering it with a set of springs.......if you have a ver limited budget right now then I would lower it first...then save for wheels, next an exhaust

I am completely stock right now and purchased a set of Bridgestone Fuzions for the car at the end of May. Probably not the best tires for the Dragon. I would really like to buy a set of grippy tires for the Dragon. That reminds me... I still need to register. I have until the end of August, right?

I really want to put an aftermarket set of wheels on the S, but my taste is pretty expensive. What I want is BBS RGRs. They look awesome, although I haven't seen too many pictures of them on S2ks.

Thanks for the responses,

Matt

hmm... i still say get tires first. talk to westsidebilly about the difference a good set of tires makes on the dragon. he's one of the better drivers that i have met, and he went from S02's to Goodyear F1's. wsb said that it was a mistake. (he's working on cooking his F1's right now so he can get a set of S02's by next month)
There is a guy with a set of RGR's on his suzuka on the ohio board. i forgot his name though.. i see his car all the time in mayfield...

I had S03PPs in the middle of the S02s and the Goodyears. If you're daily driving, the Goodyears are the way to go, IMO. If it's a toy that doesn't see a lot of rain, S02s bar none.

As for your goal of differentiating your car without spending a lot of money? Don't. The car is still not that common, and you risk really cheapening it. Do you really want to be the guy with the cheap knock-off exhaust that sounds like a fart can, or the guy with the body kit that isn't painted? If your budget is limited, keep it stock! Lowering the car on stock wheels is a so-so mod (appearance wise), but isn't a bad place to start. 17" wheels are a good appearance mod, but expect to drop $1500-2500 for a set, plus $700-800 for tires. Don't get cheap heavy wheels, the weight will dog the car. Also, if you seriously plan on doing this, I'd hold off on new tires for the stock rims. Other good inexpensive mods would be clearing your headlights and side markers and getting your windscreen engraved/lighted (search for posts by coxmw if you want to see what some of use have done).

I forgot to note the difference between the three tires...

Dry: S02 >> S03PP > F1 GSD3
Wet: F1 GSDS > S03PP >>> S02

The S02 makes a huge difference when driving hard, as you might be prone to do on the Dragon. The S03PP is the better alternative that I've had, but is still a marked decrease. The GSD3 is ok, but really needs more air in the front to compensate for the sidewall flexure (my best setup was with 37/33 F/R cold ). You're also dealing with a size incompatibility - the GSD3s tend to be narrow for their size, and the wider sizes are not available. So not only are the tires inferior in dry grip, but you lose contact patch. Trivial difference in normal use (and beneficial in the rain), but very noticable on autoX or aggressive roads.

I'm just about ready to finalize my winter project too.The changes planned will either increase performance or reduce weight.Hopefully with enough planning both will be accomplished by each mod individually
