Default Mustang

Quick question,

One of my friends just bought a 93 lx mustang 5.0. He said all that is done to it is a set of flow masters are on it. He wants to race me this weekend, what do you guys think?

I think it will be an easy kill, but I have yet to race my S2000.

Just was wondering about some feedback

Later on

If it's a Mustang offering to race, we must be talking quarter mile... Have you launched at all yet? I haven't tried since I figure I would fvck it up and be pissed about burning my clutch.

Maybe David could give some advice here???

Oh, I'm betting you take him if he truly hasn't done any other mods.

Just looking around the internet and it says that a 93 LX mustang 5.0 runs a 14.8 quarter.

A S2000 runs a 13.8 quarter so should be no problem, unless I miss a gear. HEHE, but that will not happen.

I launched it today on the way home from work. Launched from 4000, but just like you I do not want to screw the clutch up. So I will not be doing that unless I race someone.

Better yet, can you race him from a roll instead? I don't race much, but when I do, it's always from a roll because you are not going to abuse the drivetrain as bad from a roll. Better yet, start from a speed that favors you just at the edge of engaging vtec.

From a roll, you will get slaughtered. You need to launch between 6k and 7k rpms or you will be wasting you time. Don't slip it, just take you foot off the cluth as fast you can. It may gring going into 2nd, but just ignor it. It is just a trait of the car if yours does it. I get tire spin from 1st to 2nd.

Good luck.

I would think that if you ran from a roll starting at a speed where you can be doing at least ~6500 RPMs, you'd be just fine. Why would he get slaughtered from a roll in a case like that? You're eliminating the variables of doing a launch and since the S2000 is faster, he should have less of a problem than from a standing start?

Maybe you just meant "from a roll" as in rolling out normally from a traffic light? You're right. That is definitely not a good idea in this car. The only time that whole "no torque" argument holds weight is when you're in first gear and under, oh, about 4000 RPMs. In any other gear, you can always downshift.

I do not see how from a roll I will get slaughtered. The S2000 is most vulnerable in a race during the first 20 MPH. If we start at a roll then I will already either be by first gear, or a majority of the way through it. Oh well I guess we will see, it is just my friend and I going out screwing around so it is not that big of a deal.

As Strangedaze said, it does depend on what speed and RPMs you are starting with.
