Some of you might remember hearing this cracking noise coming from my engine from Mod Day after the car comes from a drive and stops. After stopping for like 20 seconds the noise will dissipate as if it were related to cooling or something. Some have mentioned that it

 

Chain tensioner from what I heard. When you give it gas, your oil pressure rises giving the tensioner more "tension". I am willing to bet it sounds like a playing card in the spokes of a bycicle wheel. Then again, I would need to hear it again and do some diagnostics. You may want to call hardtopguy (216-299-3182) to see if he can bring one to the dragon since he is leaving tomorrow. I doubt any honda dealer will have this in stock, but I know Jeff usually has one in stock.

Should I have this replaced before departuring Friday?

I know Jeff will be coming down 71 tomorrow. I could possible arrange a quick meet up on polaris and have the part tomorrow. I'd need some assistance that evening to have it installed though. Any tips? guides? or helping hands? I would be very gratful and be less worried about the drive to the dragon.

The noise is getting pretty bad. and that is what scares me since the dragon is a far drive away from home. I just talked to Jeff again and we will meet up on 71 on his way through Polaris / Columbus tomorrow and I should have the chain tensioner tomorrow. Will call you in a few mins here to discuss. Apprecaite the help!

Got the part now. Just met up with Hardtopguy and picked up the new chain tensioner.

 

The Chainectomy starts at 6:30. There is gallery seats available for viewing since I am a teaching auto hospital.
