The card he flashed was for a security company that provides protection for shuttle buses for the elderly. He's been jailed for counterfeiting. He was an executive for Gizmondo, a company that made a handheld gaming device which has gone bankrupt, complete with allegations of gross mismanagement.

And, the car that he wrecked was supposed to have been repo'd but apparently it couldn't be found. The car that witnesses reported that he was racing just happened to be the same model that he reported stolen so it couldn't be repo'd. The plot clots.
