I'm up for doing lots of stuff this year. Perhaps we ought to get a topic going for Spring Route 26 too. Maybe those guys will join us as well. I know the Indy guy wanted to come last time.

What got me interested is the fact that something like 10 NSX owners have expressed interest in this - I have yet to see one up close - they don't let you get very close at the Auto Show

To keep interest up over the winter maybe we should hold a little party to plan out next years trip's, etc... We could do a convertible/summer theme where everyone has to wear shorts and summer gear.

We could even setup a couple of PC's for online racing.

On another note, I'm getting closer and closer to the darkside. I'm taking a day off tomorrow to go look at a couple of '95 Porsche 993 convertibles.

One of them is just like the one seen here:

Somebody stop me!!!!!

I can't believe it. A vendor that I deal with at the office test drove this car. He has a brother that lives by this dealer if it is the same dealer. the car was in good shape, but I believe this place would not deal on the price. He picked one up in Naples, FL. instead. It was a coupe with lower miles but with Kinesis wheels and a lowered suspension. He even got the original suspension parts. Make sure this car has had it's 30K service done. BTW, check buyers imports here in columbus. They are loaded with used porches.

Wow, it's a small world. I had an interesting day yesterday. Drove to the Columbus area to look at a Charcoal 95 Cab like the one in the ad. I wasn't planning on the car being very nice because the dealership mainly had low end domestic's. I wasn't suprised. Walked into the showroom and here's this beautiful car with about an inch of dust on it. Multiple scratches, swirls in the paint. Brake rotors are shot. Poor car, it didn't deserve this Meanwhile this idiot is telling me about what a nice car it is and he can't believe the owner is listing it for only $37. I didn't even bother trying to explain to him that the "Blue Book" can be tossed out the window on exotics and that the car is actually very overpriced for the condition.

The good part is that they let me take it out by myself (after 30 minutes of trying to charge the battery because somebody drained it.) Driving it was actually quite nice. I even managed to wiggle the tail a little bit coming out of a parking lot. This test drive at least helped me make the decision that this model/year is what I want.

I then went to look at one in Canton that was on a "premium" dealer lot. This place specializes in exotics and had a '96 for $50k. I wasn't interested in the car but wanted to see how much better it was than the "beater" I just drove. This one disappointed me even more. The rear window was nearly impossible to see through. The struts on the engine lid were shot so it falls on your head. The power seat was messed up so It moved sideways instead of forward! The salesman made notes of all of these and then tells me how they only get the finest cars and they service everything they sell. Obviously I don't have any interest in buying from them.

So the search goes on. I may try to get more info on the one in Texas. Dave, is there any way you could put me in contact with the guy who looked at it? I can also try to get a local Porsche enthusiast from the boards I frequent to take a look.

Dave, I believe I did look at Buyers Imports' website and they didn't have specifically what I was looking for. Do you have any direct experience with them?

I will take a look At Kelleys imports by me this weakend for you. Also, if there is something at Buyers that you would like me to look at for you, just let me know. Each place is only 10 min away. BTW, kelley must be getting thier spring inventory in. From the highway(I pass Kelley every day) I can see that they just got an S2000, 300zx turbo?, and an Older M6. I might just have to go see the M6. Even buy todays standards, it is one hell of car.

Also, you will find broken and worn stuff on mid 90's Porches. These were the years when they were almost out of business, quality was so so, and these years are also very expensive to repair, even something trivial.

Thanks Dave, if I can locate something nearby it will certainly make the whole process easier.

I've been doing mucho research on the reliability, cost of maintaining older Porsches. From what I've seen the 993's (95-98) actually have significantly fewer problems than the 964's (90-94), and around the same as the late 80's Carrera's. This is assuming that the owners have kept up with normal maintenance. If they aren't maintained, it can get ugly and costly in a hurry. I'm not looking for a perfect, easily maintained, super reliable car (Otherwise I'd buy another Honda ) I'm just looking for one that previous users have taken care of and not abused.
