I tolerate the Cayenne because it gave Porsche the cash reserves to build the Cayman. The Cayman is the best platform Porsche has - fixed roof for better rigidity than the Boxster, mid-engine for better center-of-mass than the 911. If it weren't for the 911's revered status, Porsche could have built a Cayman that would stomp a 911. Face it, a car's engine just does not belong hanging out behind the rear axle. The fact that Porsche makes it work shows remarkable engineering prowess. Imagine what a Cayman could be if they let the engineers build one that wasn't hamstrung by the "make it better than a Boxster, but not as good as a 911" corporate edict. (And if they would make the a$$ end not so freaking ugly...)

Funny.

I test drove an E46 M3 last week. Very impressed with the performance and vehicle quality for low to mid 30's on a pre-owned one.
I am with you there. This one had about 17k on it and was low 40's. Reminded me of the first time driving my 2001 S4. In a word; FUN! Probably worth the money, but a bit steep nonetheless. My 2004 with the same miles was about $10k cheaper. That says something.

Cayman = poop
