Default Choice of tires

The tires on my SLK are down to 1-2mm of tread on the rears; time for new ones. In the sizes I need, I have two choices - was looking for your opinions to consider.

Option 1: Bridgestone Potenza RE-01

Option 2: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 StarSpec

Thanks in advance!

Hmm, that's a tough one. I've never even heard of those specific Dunlop tires. TireRack's description of them is pretty impressive tho.

our lexus is's come with dunlops and they have bad ware patterns they only last about 15-20k. infact i am doing an alignment on one right now after the cust went out and got goodyears because she was so pissed at the dunlops she had. i told her to get some yoks cause they are a better tire but she didnt want to pay that price i guess.

I was a little wary of the lack of comments at TireRack for the Dunlop versus the praise the RE-01R received. Good info guys, thanks!

I've owned only 1 set of Dunlops on a pickup, never again.

The old joke is you know how the get their name? When you drive down the road they go "dun lop dun lop dun lop....".

I had Bridgestones on my current truck, replaced them with Yoko's and absolutely love them, have looked at the Yoko's for the S but haven't decided yet. Since our S will never see the track I am looking for an all season tire instead of the stock tires.

i believe the StarSpec is not your traditional dunlop, a lot of autox are very anxious to try this tire, and it has gotten good reviews
