Default odd sound

I'm a proud S2000 owner (2007 NFR). Love this car. It's a daily driver except during risk of severe weather, with 51K miles. For as long as I can remember, there has been a sort of whining/whistling sound when slowing for a light or speeding up from a stop. I don't think it happens all the time or maybe I'm just used to it. Hubby was riding with me a few days ago and asked if I heard it (bit of a high frequency hearing loss, so I miss some sounds) and I told him it has been around for a long time and doesn't seem to affect any aspect of the driving experience. Wondered if the collective intelligence here could point me to some things to check. I am not a car mechanic-type, but hubby is. Maybe it's something obvious or maybe it IS normal for the car. Only thing that has been done to the car is all periodic maintenance, new battery and new tires over a year ago. And a sensor (O2?) quite a while back. Nothing that would seem to me to be the cause. Any ideas? Don't want to be -->

Any idea what area the sound might be coming from?

I feel like it is coming up from behind instrument panel, but not sure if that's the exact location. Or up from behind floor pedals. Doesn't sound like tire noise, though.

Hard to say without actually hearing it. I'd suggest taking it to Joe Marina Honda and having Dartanyan (rx7ands2k) test drive it. He dailies his S2000 too and might be able to recognize any abnormal sounds.

Well, turns out I was right...it's normal transmission noise. (I was right in that it is a normal sound--never knew exactly *what* was normal, though).
