To be honest, I've heard that the time ON TRACK is not that much. I would love to be out for more than a minute and a half. The last PCA event's track time was about a minute and five seconds at most. I just couldn't help but feel unfulfilled. It was fun, but I wanted more. Granted the weather and track conditions were not the best so that's why it didn't bother me as much.
I also like the fact that it's not all in an open area with cones... There are turns that you HAVE to follow or you'll be in grass. There are also slight banks in some of the turns.
With all that said, I have not been to an SCCA event but that is just what I hear from people who have been.

The last SCCA event I went to was a few years ago, at OSUOKC's lot, but I've heard a lot remains the same:
1.) Biased track designs (the guys setting the track keep only their cars in mind).
2.) Wasn't really creative with the track design, in you go, out you come, you're done.
3.) Politics with the newer guys out there, treatment and such. Most of us don't want to wait 10-20 minutes trying to figure out what class our car is in. We're there for the seat time, purely weekend warriors. The 'veterans' are snobbier more than anything else, and see things that don't happen due to their competitive nature (calling in ghost cones or gate misses, but not wanting to tell you where you hit a cone or missed a gate to improve your driving).
Again, this was a few years ago in my Civic hatchback. I was placed in SM2, and right away was introduced to somebody with an obvious large amount of experience to tell me "You won't beat me, don't even try. Just leave." All I did was park behind him, and introduce myself.
