Some questions
It's getting closer to purchase time, so I'm trying to figure out exactly what I want to get when I get the S2K. Since it's new, I can get a few things installed on purchase more easily than doing it myself. Is it worthwhile? I was thinking of doing the 8-disc changer, the front lip, and an alarm system. Are any of these bad to have installed on purchase? Are they better to do separately?
Also, I remember hearing about some sort of solvent you can put on the bumpers to prevent chipping from gravel and other debris. Is there anything you guys can recommend?
If there's anything else I might be missing (that I shouldn't be missing), please let me know.
Thanks!
Eric

The stock stereo sucks so bad that I think your money would be better spent on a good aftermarket stereo instead of adding onto the stock one.
Honda alarm isn't too great either. Depends on how much they would charge you though.
I would do the clear bra if you're getting it new. The paint on these cars isn't real durable against rock chips.

I've heard that, too (about the headrest speakers). The dealer costs according to Honda's page are $620 for the 8-disc system and $448 for the alarm system.
Thanks for the heads up on the 3M clear bra, Julie!

I'm not saying take out the speakers. I seriously doubt the '06 head unit is that much better than the one that came in my '02. Correct me if you know better than I. For $620 (does that include installation?), you could buy a new Alpine 9857 AND an ipod that will hook right into the stereo and will hold a lot more music than an 8 disk changer could. It will sound tons better to boot. You can even buy an adapter that will interface with the buttons on the dash so you don't lose that functionality. I used the stock head unit for the first four years or so I owned this car, but I upgraded a few months back to the alpine 9857 and it is tons better than the stock head unit. There really is no comparison.
I also wouldn't bother with the Honda alarm for $448. Unless they've changed it dramatically in the last few years, it's not that great of an alarm. No proximity detector, which is essential in my opinion for an alarm on a convertible. I don't have an alarm on mine, but I also park it in the garage so I'm not as worried about it.

Hey 620 will cost you less if you install it. Our tulsa S club will help you install it. It is pretty easy and you learn how to do it. We have done 3 S so far. And they are good install. If you have any question about installing or want to listen to some of our system to decide pm one of us. Cliff, David, humbles2k (sorry can't spell you name) lol, and me.
saw my name and thought i would drop my .02 about MY02...the factory speakers and headunit suck. 620 would give you a kickass sound system that you can actually hear. i put in an aftermarket headunit and it made so much difference. next is subwoofer, or component set speakers that are amped. if you go with aftermarket speakers AMP them!!! also the alarm, you can get a better alarm than the honda one for similar or less money. if you need help with any of the above let us know! good luck with the purchase!!!
Sweet - thanks for the info! Looks like I'll just get the front lip with purchase, and leave the rest of it to install separately (not stock). I may contact one or more of you with questions about sound systems after I purchase the car. I actually plan on keeping the S2K in a garage, so I may not even get an alarm system.
Anything else to consider? A cover to keep on the car during the winter (when the weather's bad and the car stays inside)? Go ahead and get a set of winter tires? Anything that you guys wished you would have gotten right away when you got your Stookies?
