Grassroots Motorsports recently compared the Solstice, MX-5 and a 1999 Miata. The '99 Miata has been autocrossed for six years, so it has six years of development history with suspension upgrades. The Solstice and MX-5 were both stock. They used the same track, same tires (Hoosiers), two different drivers, adjusted alignment and compared them. The 1999 Miata had the fastest times, just beating out...the Solstice. The MX-5 had the slowest times. So it appears the Solstice does handle well, despite what some people are saying.

I agree the top could be easier to operate. Other cars in the same price range have better mechanisms than the Solstice does, but, IMO, none of them look as good as the Solstice looks. Hopefully the quality will prove to be good, but that will take time to tell. As we all know, the old Pontiac doesn't have a history of exceptional quality.

Yeah I don't think it looks that bad. But for 26 or 32 grand I rather get a S.

i think its ugly. its not comparing it to the S. its just the car overall to me is too..boxy and looks like a girls car. reminds me of that chevy truck thats convertible..i forget the name.. So it handles well. Thats cool. i'll congratulate it, but i wont look twice at that car.

They are only about $20k, so not really the same price catagory as the S2000. I agree that for the same money I would get an S2000...that is what I did. Okay, the Solstice wasn't out when I bought my car in September but it was on its way and I had read plenty about it.

And the fact that the car handles well is a big deal to me. If I am buying a sports car it is because I want a car that handles well. I bet most people's decision to purchas their S2k was influenced by its outstanding handling. I can say it was a huge factor for me.

I am not trying to convince you it is a great car, just giving my $0.02 worth. I wouldn't trade my S2k for one, but if I were spending $20k on a new car right now, it would be a Solstice.

I understand that. The main factor of buying this car was for handling. But after I got it I learned it can do so much more and has alot more to offer. If you were spending 20k on a new car right now..would a 2000 s2k with only 10k miles work? Just trying to see what you mean. If you mean a new 2006 model yeah for 20k a solstice would do. But I haven't seen that car in person but I just dont want to feel like i'm riding around in a boat. maybe i just need to go drive in one.
