2025 Drive: Crater Lake/Old McKenzie - August 8th - 10th
First off, let me apologize for the late posting of this drive! Also, I am not putting photos in right away, as it is approaching bed time in Virginia! I will try to get some photos posted as soon as I can!
Central Oregon/Crater Lake/Old Mac -Aug 8th - 10th, 2025 Join Us for the fourth official drive of the 2025 season as we drive through beautiful Central Oregon down to the deepest fresh water lake in the states. Drive time (from Tualatin, OR): 13.0 hours including lunch/stops and just under (or over) 600 miles over 3 days
Much like with the amazing Leavenworth drive, this drive will require you to find some lodging in Central Oregon, probably around Sisters/Bend/Redmond.
The plan has us finding our own way over the mountains on Friday night to be ready for a Saturday morning departure to head south through the sage brush and pine trees of Central Oregon. A formal time and meet up location will be dispatched on Thursday prior to the drive, but it won't be too early! We will trek to Crater Lake for a leisurely trip around what part of the Rim Drive we can access. According to the National Park Service, a portion of the East Rim Drive is closed for construction.
We will spend as much time as we want at Crater Lake, having lunch there before trekking back to the Bend area.
After a relaxing evening on Saturday night, we will be meeting up Sunday morning to get ready to head back. This is where it gets a little different, we will be heading back to the Metro area via the Old Mac Hwy (only going backwards this time, something that we don't normally do!) Once we reach the valley, the drive will officially end and people can do what they what to on their way home!
Sorry again for not getting this out earlier. I am prepared to deal with the fallout from people that made plans for that weekend already!
