Just thought I'd share the saga of my garage makeover for anyone who's interested. The project is nearing an end, and it's turning out pretty well. This is the first time I've done anything on this scale, so it's been a good learning experience, although I couldn't have done it without a LOT of advice and help. I
At work now and can see the pics- looks very nice! What color are you painting when finished? I'd go with gray or some neutral color.
Have you considered doing an epoxy floor sealant or other material for the floor? My brother in law did his garage floor for very little money.. it looks similar to this. The only problem is it makes finding a dropped nut, screw, bolt a bit more difficult. He keeps a black rubber bottom mat under areas he works on to avoid this.
I've been back and forth about floor treatments and am coming to the conclusion that I'm going to do absolutely nothing. My concern about the apoxy treatments is that if they fail (which can happen b/c of moisture transfer or poor surface prep) you're stuck with what you've got. My concern about floor tiles, such as RaceDeck, is that they're an awful lot of money for pure aethetics. It's not as if the floor is any harder to sweep or clean. And, once I've got three cars and a trailer in the garage, there won't be much floor that's visible anyway. But I'm still on the fence about this, so any input/suggestions are most welcome.
As for the walls, ceiling, and trim, I'm painting the ceiling (and the cathedraled portion of the side walls) an off-white. The walls will be a light but warm yellow. The baseboards and window sills will be charcoal gray. The trim around the doors will match the stained wood inside the house. I'll post photos once it's done.
I'm also about to update my original post with a shot of the finished storage room. Check it out!
