Had a big Alder come down thursday night, well, actually had 1 alder, 2 cedars, a fir and 2 maples come down, all pretty big trees, in fact 1 of the cedars was the bearing tree at the corner of my property. 1 of the Maples came down across the hwy and took out our power lines from Thur evening till Sunday night, that was fun. Anyway I had my Superduty and the S parked by the house, the alder came down onto the Ford missing the S by about 5 feet! Lucky me man, usually the S is in the shop but it was so dirty I parked it by the house.

Lucky guy

I am glad to see that your S is safe but that sucks about your truck and all your trees. That must be a huge mess

Unfortunately your right, BIG mess. Lot o firewood though! What's really a bummer is my wife and I considered cutting a few cedars to build the deck last summer, we decided that the big cedars were too nice and we didn't want to cut them so I bought all the cedar to do the deck, 22'x46' and now 2 of the big ones we didn't want cut are down along with a couple smaller ones. I think I'll mill up the wood anyway, now my wife wants a "gardening shed", probably enough wood down to do that.

The truck's not too bad, the top of the tree hit the cab right where the brake light is at the back, it crunched that line and put about an 18" 'dent' in the top (sort of caved in) but the bed rails supported the tree trunk without denting though there are A LOT of scratched all over one side of the bed.

David,

The PDX metro area was hit with the storm. At one point there was 186,000 homes and businesses with out power. With some staying dark until late on Sunday.

Mistman is out of Mist, OR. That is one of the small towns we drove through on our Astoria trip. It is towards the coast from PDX.

Yep, lost power from Thursday afternoon till Sunday evening. We're pretty prepared so it wasn't too bad, the worst part was wondering when/if a tree would hit the house. The one that hit the truck was the closest, one of the big cedars could have hit the house had it not fallen the other way.

I've had enough now!

BTW-Mist isn't really a town though it does show up on most maps. It's called a 'rural center', there is no Mist address. I'm 15 miles from Vernonia, which happens to be long distance though Astoria is not, and am the last Vernonia address heading west on 47, my neighbor is Clatskanie. We had the distinction of having the longest continuously run bisuness in Oregon, the Mist store, which opened in 1876, until it burned down in June of '02 (I think). I have the only video of the fire, I it heard burning from my bedroom window on the hill above the store, grabbed my camera and ran down the hill. It was intense, built of cedar the fire dept didn't even attempt to put it out (the local dept didn't have a chance and it took about 20 minutes for Vernonia and Clatskanie to show up), it was so hot approaching within 75 feet or so was extremely uncomfortable. Just a bit of trivia which isn't all I'm full of according to some

Got it. I wasn't sure if the storm went that far South or not.

Yeah, I heard they got it harder than we did up north... yet Portland Energy apparently has their shit together!

(I'm going on day 5 up here w/o power.)

I got the storm way down here in Redmond real bad too. We did not loose power because there are not that many big trees and most of our power is underground Some lost power here in Central Oregon though. Only for a few hours. My neighbors window was shattered because of the rain hitting the window so hard from the wind
