Default Continental DW or Dunlop Star Spec

Which one do you have personal experience with and recommend? I am looking for better wet traction for track days. Last year at the HPDE, the Sumitomos were not very controllable during the wet session. Knowing Portland, need better wet traction anyways.

Also, looking to go 225/255, I believe I am mildly lowered (1" on Eibach Pro Kit and stock shocks), with 49+ offset 17" Volks, so I should be Ok with no rubbing, right?

Thanks.

I run the star spec's(non-staggered 255's) and love them. I however don't track my car(yet) so I can't give you a real review on them. They're great in the rain. They can hydro plane at times(big puddles of water), but I contribute that mainly to the width, not the tread.

Star specs hands down in the rain on a track day. Brandon had these on our track day last year when it rained. It did great. Abhi, did you sign up for June 4ths track day? I can't think of anyone else who is coming besides myself.

How does a complete noob get on the track? I know I'll need an instructor for a while at least, but when do I do that? The same time the more experienced drivers are on the track?

There are 4 separate groups that run but not all at the same time. The groups are novice, intermediate, advanced, and instructor. You will get four 20 min sessions on the track throughout the day with an instructor. Once you have done a few track days or if your instructor feels that you can move to the next level, they'll email the club people and you can then move forward. It's a blast to do a track day and kind of addicting. When you do sign up for one, be sure of three things; Fluids all changed or checked, tires, and brakes (oem pads won't cut it) .

If your priority is really track performance the best bet is a second set of wheels and R-compound tires. The difference between street tires and track tires is night and day.

When I tracked my car I always took the time to swap brake pads and wheels/tires... tracking without was just a fight to overcome the shortcomings of the wrong equipment.
