Pork Rindes are actually fried pig skin if I remember correctly.

I cannot tell you what the appeal is, I, myself have only had them a couple of times.

Well, you have to keep in mind that a lot of southern food is derived from being poor. They literally couldn't buy good ingredients and had to make due with what they had. Then developed a 'taste' for it (gag). Similar with many delicacies around the world.

Pork Rinds are usually heavily seasoned. The actual pork rind is simply a vessel for the spices. Not a personal favorite of mine, but I have had them more than once.

Chit'lins, on the other hand, have no redeeming value.

Of course, I don't understand grits either. Yee-uck.

But I do enjoy fried okra. Has to be fresh! Fried canned okra is disgusting.

For me, happiness is a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich on wheat bread with a glass of iced Dr Pepper followed by a bowl of Blue Bell ice cream. And to think, I gave up Blue Bell to be with all of you. Do you realize how special that makes you?

*sigh*

Blue Bell, "We eat all we can and sell the rest."

Pork Rinds are very yummy on occasion. I don't think I could eat them year round, but whenever we would go to Silver Dollar City (local amusement park in Branson, MO) we could get a package.

Paul is right--they are mostly a conduit for salt delivery. But tasty all the same. It's been years since I've had any. Wow, it is crazy how food can bring back memories.

As for my favorite southern dish, I would have to go hands down with biscuits smothered in white sausage gravy, hashbrowns, bacon, and scrambled eggs.

Man, that makes me think of my grandparents.

I guess Tillamook will have to do until you go back to visit.

Tillamook is the all time best in the world! I would love to try some Blue Bell for the taste comparison however getting it here could pose a little problem.

So Paul, how does Tillamook stack up to Blue Bell?

Tillamook is certainly good ice cream. Blue Bell is just ... better (:

At $120 for four half gallons they'll ship it to your door and you could find our for yourself

Unfortunately Blue Bell Country doesn't get remotely close to us. Otherwise I'd be scheduling a drive for the group, and I'd make that $120 worth of Blue Bell go a lot further.

It says that Blue Bell is the number 3 brand ice cream in the US.

I wonder what 1 and 2 are........

Breyers and Dreyers

Doesn't mean they're better, just "bigger/popular"

is it bad that I'm conversing with/answering the g/f on a forum?
