Default Idea for the last drive, but....

researching options for the final drive of the season "Southern Exploration" leaves us with a major conundrum.

Getting south far enough in a single day to do some interesting driving and still getting back home without wearing people out

We've found a good potential option that explores some of the coastal mountain areas south of Eugene but it would require almost 10 hours of total driving time, not including pitstops or lunch.
There isnt much we can reach in a reasonable day down south without turning it into a two-day drive.

So would people ACTUALLY be interested in such a long 1-day drive?
What about the option we discussed before about a 1.5 day drive, with people heading south after work Friday, booking rooms in Eugene (or thereabouts) and then doing a 1-day drive to explore south and then have plenty of time to return to PDX at a reasonable hour?

Thoughts?

I could do the 1.5 day, but would need a date far enough in advance to get it off from work.

I would be up for the 1.5 day drive as well, but for me it would have to be early enough in the month to get away from the mandatory OT I work during the end of my companies quarter.

Like that idea, but instead of forming an official 2 day drive or 12 hr marathon from PDX, let's just pick a southern meet up point, like Eugene, Cottage Grove, wherever. That way all those logistics are an individual's responsibility and not yours! If you told me there was a drive that was going to last 6 hrs and we start in Roseburg I'd be there and work in an excuse to go fly fishing on either end Hey: it's the Oregon chapter of S2Ki, not the Portland chapter! Let's start down south

I dunno about the Eugene guys, but I'm not so sure they realize what's hiding in their figurative back yard.

I spent about 12 hours on the road yesterday with 7 of them in the mountains exploring our potential route and OH MY GOD are you all in for a treat.
Talk about a last hurrah for the season!

I may need new tires now.....
