Impromptu Spring Drive
Okay, here it goes. I am planning an 'unofficial' first drive of the year. I have a route mapped out, I have a lunch place that I want to go to and I have a weekend that is open for me. I want to invite anyone that has the time open and wants to stretch those S2k legs to join me. I am also opening this up to others that might not have S2's any longer. The more the merrier. I would like a rough headcount, but I am not making it necessary to 'sign up' ahead of time. Come if you can.
The details are not finalized yet. The date is April 12th. The second Saturday of the month. The starting point is the McDonalds on Hwy 30 (the corner of NW Yeon and NW 26th). The lunch stop is going to be the Rogue Brew Pub in Astoria. We are not following one of our normal routes and I will not go down Hwy 30 all the way to Astoria. Lets just say we will have a fun trip out to Astoria.
I will NOT be emailing out a route map. Those that show up on Saturday will get a copy (one reason for the rough head count is so I can be prepared). If you have been in one of my groups on previous drives, you know I will push as hard as the road/weather conditions and speed limits allow. I want everyone that shows up to drive to their level and comfort, this is not a race, it is just a fun gathering. I will not require proof of insurance or license, you all are responsible drivers and should have that stuff for your own safety.
The time I plan on leaving McDonalds is 8:00am sharp. I will not wait for people to show up, so if you want to go, be there a little early. If you need food/coffee, plan on showing up even earlier. That start time will allow us to make a quick potty stop at one of my favorite rest areas and then allow us time to visit the Astoria Column (the currently planned route takes us right by it). If the group is big enough, we will split into two groups that morning.
The return trip will be down the 101 to 26, just so you are aware. Unless I find some other fun road, then I will update the route so it is accurate on the maps I give out.
As it gets closer I will fill in any blanks that I can think of. If you have any questions, feel free to post them here and I will answer them as soon as I can. Remember, if you have a question about something, someone else might too, so ask away.
Looking forward to getting out there and running some twists and curves!
BTW this will be a "rain or shine" drive, rain has never stopped me before! So be prepared for unexpected weather!
